About Karin Glynn

Karin Glynn has been riding Dressage at a competitive level for over twenty years, training riders and their horses from Training through FEI levels.

She brings a deep passion for both horse and rider to her work and has earned the Kansas City Dressage Society (KCDS) Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals, along with numerous year-end awards.

In addition, Karin has received the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Bronze and Silver Medals, the German FN Bronze Abzeichen, and many other local and national championship wins.

Although mostly hands-off in day-to-day operations, Jerry Glynn has been involved with Karin’s horses from the very beginning. His encouragement and steady support have been instrumental in helping Karin compete and succeed at the highest levels of the sport.

Early Life & Riding Roots

Karin grew up in Dokka, Norway, near Lillehammer, the home of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Her family has been in the forestry business for over 200 years, where horses traditionally played an important role in logging. It was no surprise that Karin had her first pony, a Shetland named Ponyman, at an early age (along with a black lab named Bumse).

With the support and encouragement of her mother, Karin began riding lessons at age seven. Her first horse, a warmblood mare named Sjoka, proved to be a challenge, but through patience and determination Karin’s skills steadily improved. By age sixteen, she earned her first medals in show jumping, cross-country, and steeplechase—an impressive achievement at such a young age.

“Horses are spiritual animals. I grew up riding and owning horses my whole life - I was lucky to compete and clinic with many wonderful horses.”

Training in the United States

In 1990, Karin traveled to the United States to visit her two brothers, who were living in California. During that time, she became a working student for Olympic Dressage rider Leslie Morse at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. She later worked at the Golden Gate Park hunter-jumper stable and the Lisa Devito Equestrian Center in the Bay Area.

Discovering Dressage

Although Karin explored multiple disciplines early on, she soon realized that Dressage was her true calling. Drawn to the German tradition of Dressage excellence, she began formal study in 1992 at the Westfalen Riding & Driving School in MĂĽnster under Herr Putz.

Karin recalls the thrill of riding a schoolmaster and truly understanding for the first time what correct Dressage should feel like. After three months of intensive training, she successfully completed her German FN Bronze Abzeichen.

Training & Competitive Background

In 1997, Karin and her husband Jerry moved to Kansas City, where she became a member of the Kansas City Dressage Society while working at Landers Farms. During this time, she trained extensively with noted German Dressage instructor Michael Beining, further refining her skills and competitive focus.

Continuing Education & Training Philosophy

Karin has remained deeply committed to ongoing education throughout her career. In 2000, she returned to Germany for a three-month Dressage apprenticeship at a premier barn in Warendorf, followed by additional training in 2007 at Temple Farms in Chicago with German instructor Jochen Hippenstiel. She has also participated in clinics with renowned Dressage professionals, including Conrad Schumacher and Steffen Peters.

To further round out her approach, Karin has worked with respected Western and Natural Horsemanship trainers, bringing a thoughtful, balanced perspective to her training philosophy. Horsemanship work goes back to the Vought family that traces to Parelli training methods.

Honoring Our Andalusian Breeding History

Karin Glynn Dressage was once home to a select PRE Andalusian breeding program centered around Lazaro MHF, a 16.2-hand dark bay stallion known for his exceptional movement, kind temperament and classic Spanish presence.

With rare bloodlines and a strong record in PRE and IALHA competition, Lazaro represented the beauty, athleticism and rideability that make the Andalusian so admired in dressage. Though breeding is no longer the primary focus, this program remains an important part of Karin’s history and her long-standing dedication to quality horses, correct training and thoughtful horsemanship.
